You Heard It Here First - 11 August 2010

Hi Pineapples,

…Festival News…

So our mates over at Triple J are doing there bit for undiscovered local music by offering you the chance to get yourself on the bill for Parklife later this year in September. All you have to do is register on the Unearthed website and upload your tracks by late August. Can’t wait to hear what you’ve got!

…Rumours and Speculation..

I was thumbing through the newsletter from Mr Oli Cash, aka ‘Far Too Loud’ the other day and I noticed an Australian tour is in the pipe line. No details just yet, however I hit him up on Soundcloud and found out that the tour has been scheduled for December. In light of this, his explosion onto the scene, and a succession of high selling releases on Beatport, I’d be tipping we see Mr Cash later this year at Belvoir for Breakfest.

Artists & Albums

Right so Joel Zimmerman, aka ‘Deadmau5’ was rumoured to be laying a new album on us earlier this year in May. Firstly, the piece hit us in June, and it has been titled ‘At Play 3’. Those with a keen eye will notice that this title would suggest a compilation album rather that an artist album (as would be par for the course with the ‘At Play’ series). This is indeed the case and the album features a collection of tracks that have previously been on show as singles. The album is a collection of tracks that show the Mau5 of yester year. You can expect some progressive minimal and electro of intellect.

…Gear Watch…

Those of you that use Traktor from Native Instruments or substitutes thereof will be interested to hear that Finnish hardware manufactures EKS have created a brand new DJ controller called the Otus. The Otus operates as a full digital media controller and can be used as a substitute for CD turntables in order to export control of virtual DJ program away from a mouse and into hardware. Not only is the Otus absolutely stunning to look at, it incorporates a full touch and visual display, as well as a large platter making it far more conducive for scratching than its predecessors. My fellow haters of CD turntables, the time is almost upon us, lets just wait and see how these bad boys prove their stripes in the club, however this could be the next paradigm shift in media formatting.

Cheers for taking the time, Myki Six.
